What foods cause acne ?

Acne and pimples are certainly unpleasant, and not only do they impact our physical appearance but in extreme cases they can also impact our mental well-being. So, we need to do all we can to avoid pimples and acne and one way to achieve this is to know what foods cause acne. Some of us may have noticed that after consuming certain types of foods we are more prone to have pimples and acne.

In this article we try to identify some particular foods that can increase the likelihood of the appearance of pimples and acne. One note that we must highlight is that these foods we will mention are not solely responsible for acne.  These foods can increase the appearance of acne in the wider context of those who also have acne prone skin, oily skin , deficient gut health and do not have a proper cleansing routine as part of their skincare routine.

Fast Foods

Fast foods are tasty and tempting but in general they are not healthy and can increase the likelihood of acne and pimples appearing. It has been noted that high consumption of fast foods in particular by those in their teens can increase the appearance of acne. Although the link between fast foods and acne has been established there are still some doubts about what ingredients in fast foods are the ones responsible for causing acne and pimples.

Sugar

Sugar can be consumed in many ways. It can be consumed in the form of refined white sugar or other forms that can be found in soft drinks, sodas, juices and honey. They have plenty of refined carbs that can be absorbed quickly in the bloodstream which causes our sugar levels to increase. This increase in sugar levels also increases the insulin levels which drives the surplus of sugar into our cells which can increase the likelihood of acne and pimples appearing.

Chocolate

We have written about links between chocolate and acne in previous articles. This links has been further demonstrated by studies that have shown those who consume 100% unsweetened coco have a much higher possibility of having acne and pimples. In fact, chocolate not only is bad due to it having coco but also due to the presence of milk and sugar in it both of which are foods that can increase the appearance of acne. All these ingredients that are present in chocolate impact our immune system. They cause the immune system to react excessively to acne causing bacteria.

Products containing dairy

There have been studies conducted that have shown that there are links between the consumption of dairy products and acne. In particular these studies have shown that there are links between consumption of dairy products such as skimmed milk and acne. But there are still some doubts about the consumption of dairy products and acne. If you have noticed that after consuming dairy products, you are more likely to have acne is best to avoid them.

Greasy Foods

Foods that have a high amount of grease such as bacon, French fries, pizza, onion rings, burgers and doughnuts contain plenty of oil and fat. Due to the presence of high amount of oil and fat in these foods they are more likely to lead to outbreak of pimples and acne.
