The skin covering the chin, neck and décolleté is very thin and only slightly thicker than that of the eyelids, which is only about 0.5-0.6 mm. It also lacks support of robust underlying bones or muscles that makes it most vulnerable to the combined effects of aging, gravity, and sun exposure. Compared to the face, this area is also lower in hydration and production of sebum due to fewer pores, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, and hair follicles (especially among women).
