When we discuss lightening and brightening the skin, we need to focus on treating hyperpigmentation. In addition, we need to learn more about exfoliation, topical skincare applications, nutrition-diet and sun protection. Let’s now discuss these topics in greater details.

Cleansing with AHAs and BHAs and regular exfoliation

In previous blogs we have written about Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs). When we exfoliate with products that contain these ingredients our skin will benefit in numerous ways. They help to make the skin smoother, softer, and brighter. In addition, they can help to decrease fine lines, remove excess sebum, remove dead skin cells, decrease pigmentation, help to unclog pores, and remove whiteheads and blackheads gently.

Cleansing the skin twice a day with cleansers that contain AHAs & BHAs can also help when it comes to the tone of the skin. In addition, they can help those who suffer from dry skin conditions.

You can also use other skincare products that contain these ingredients. You can use serums, toners and masks that have either AHAs or BHAs or contain both of them. Please note some precautionary steps before you use products that contain BHAs or AHAs. This is due to the fact that some people may be sensitive to them. It Is best to start using them once every few days with low percentage to see how your skin reacts to them. If your skin reacts to them well, you can increase the strength but if you have allergic reactions stop using them!

Applying topical skincare products to lighten your skin

When it comes to using over the counter topical skincare products to lighten your skin you should look for products that contain certain ingredients. The ingredients you should look for when buying topical skincare products are AHAs, BHAs, Vitamin C and Vitamin E. Ingredients like AHAs and BHAs can help when it comes to reducing pigmentation, removing dirt, removing sebum & getting rid of dead skin cells.

When it comes to vitamin C it is a great source of nourishment for the skin and can help to reduce pigmentation. Make sure to read our article about is vitamin C  good for the skin since it has plenty of information about how vitamin C can help with the skin.

For skin moisturization look for topical skincare products that contain vitamin E.  Moisturization and hydration of the skin are important since a well hydrated skin is softer which in turn helps with skin cell turnover which also gives a brighter appearance to the skin.

Your skincare routine

When it comes to your skincare routine make sure to also have a nighttime skincare routine in addition to your daytime routine. It is observed that having a nighttime skincare routine is beneficial when it comes to the health of our skin. Since certain acids and vitamin C can increase sensitivity to the sun they are best applied at night.

When it comes to your daily skincare routine it should have certain components. It should involve cleansing, applying a toner and then applying lotion and creams such as a lightening cream. There is a difference in consistency when it comes to lotions and creams. Creams tend to be thicker while lotions tend to be lighter in consistency.

Diet and Nutrition are also important

We have written in the past how a healthy diet can benefit our skin. Skin health is improved not only externally but also internally by what we consume. Make sure to consume plenty of fruits and vegetables. In addition to help when it comes hydrations make sure to consume plenty of water. When our skin is well hydrated it helps with cell turnover which as we mentioned before gives the skin a brighter and lighter appearance. In addition, when we are well hydrated internally our skin’s tone and texture will also improve.

Consuming fresh fruits and vegetables are beneficial when it comes to lightening the skin since they contain certain ingredients that help to lighten the skin naturally.

The importance of sun protection when it comes skin lightening

It seems that no matter what we discuss when it comes to health of our skin, sun protection in mentioned. Sun damage can be a source of pigmentation and deteriorate the skin’s elasticity. In addition, sun damage can cause premature ageing. By preventing sun damage, we can help to prevent hyperpigmentation. When we prevent hyperpigmentation, we can lighten the skin since this allows cells to regenerate. In addition, by improving the regeneration of the cells the skincare products we apply to the skin to lighten it can be more effective.

If we do not protect our skin from sun damage, we will not be able to lighten our skin. As we have mentioned numerous time in previous articles regular use of sunscreen is a great way to protect & prevent from sun damage. Another method that can help when it comes to sun damage is wearing protective clothing when outdoors and exposed to the sun.
